W2LK will be active from Mellish Reef (IOTA OC-072) as VK9MT between 28th March
and 9th April 2014. They will use 6 K3's with 6 KPA600's and vertical antennas.
They plan to have 2 teams of 5 operators per shift on the air. Frequencies:

28/03/2014: Kei, KG2A (aka JJ1RJR and V25A), will once again be active as
KG2A/VP9 from the QTH of Ed, VP9GE, in Hamilton Parish, island of Bermuda
(NA-005, WLOTA 0201) between 28-31 March 2014. Kei will focus on the CQWW WPX
SSB Contest as a Single-Op/All-Band entry, CQ zone 8. Outside the contest look
for Kei to be active on the WARC and other bands, mainly CW. QSL via KG2A,

29/03/2014: Celo, PY1MT will be QRV as PY1MT/p from Ilha de Jurubaiba (IOTA

29/03/2014: The F8REF Bulletin reports that Pierre-Louis, F5NED will operate as
TO5NED from Mayotte (AF-027, DIFO FH-001, WLOTA 0376) from 29 March to 2 April

30/03/2014: John, 9H5G/C6A departs Nassau on Saturday and hopes to be active

02/04/2014: Operators Rob N7QT, Melanie AB1UH, Hugh W4VAB and Guy N7UN have
planned a holiday style, suitcase expedition, to the island of San Andres
(NA-033, WLOTA 2990, WWFF HKFF-035) using the callsign 5J0X. QRV between 2-14
April 2014 on 80-10 metre CW, SSB and PSK. The operation will be primarily
holiday style. Logs will be uploaded during the operation to Clublog and to LoTW
shortly after the mini-DXpedition. QSL direct to N7QT. No eQSLs. IRCs are

03/04/2014: A large group of operators will be active as DA0HEL from Helgoland
island (EU-127, DID/GIA N-014, WLOTA 0518) on 3-12 April, 2014. They will run

04/04/2014: Chris GM3WOJ (A35V) and Keith GM4YXI (A35X) plan activity from
Heilala Holiday Lodge, Tongatapu Island (OC-049, WW Loc. AG28HW), Kingdom of

4Y1A & C7A Callsign Blocks -
Vienna International Amateur Radio Club (VIARC) proudly announces that VIARC
will operate stations under newly released callsigns of C7A and 4Y1A as a host
institute.
The callsign block C7A-C7Z is allocated to World Meteorological Organization
(WMO) and 4YA-4YZ is to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). VIARC
is currently operating a UN amateur radio station with the callsign 4U1VIC at
the Vienna International Centre which hosts numerous UN organizations and other
international organizations.

J52HF, GUINEA BISSAU -
Currently two team members of the Verona Dx Team are QRV as J52HF from Cumura,

Z8, SOUTH SUDAN -
STATUS UPDATE
Diya, Z81D (YI1DZ) has been in touch to inform that the current situation in
South Sudan is still not stable. He and Massimo, Z81B (IZ0EGB) have decided to
wait until at least next month to observe the situation, and if it improves they
will again operate radio.
Diya emphasised there are no restrictions on working radio but they want to
avoid any misunderstanding from different [political] parties for the time
being.

Ireland (EU-115, WLOTA 2484) to operate EI8GQB and EI1A during the CQWW WPX SSB
Contest from 22nd March to 2nd April, 2014. In 2013, Olivier scored, with EI1A,
tops Europe in CQ WW WPX, IARU HF and IOTA contests in Low Power Single Op SSB
category using green energy only and its Field Day style antenna park. 18m top
loaded vertical monopole for 160-80m-40m bands + 32 radials. Inverted V dipole
for 160-80m-40m bands. 3 elements East-West two-direction inverted V beam for

and Navy announced that an exclusive amateur radio will be on board Naval Unit
of the Navy Luigi Durand de la Penne between March 22-23rd, using the special
callsign II7LDP/MM (ARMI-1111). Activity is to celebrate the 100th anniversary
of the birth of Admiral Luigi Durand de la Penne, decorated with the Gold Medal
for Military Valour for heroic action taken December 19, 1941, during the
Company of Alexandria, one of the most important in the history ship. Operators

address in Scotland will be permitted to use the special prefix "A" - GA, MA,
2A - instead of the usual "M" for the period of 25th January (Burns Night) to

instituting an award scheme for working these special prefixes throughout the

FUNcube-1 Transponder test Saturday -
There will be a test on the 435/145 MHz linear transponder this Saturday March
22
When in sunlight FUNcube-1 is normally in "Educational Mode" (transponder off
with high power beacon) but on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at approximately 0930 UT
the FUNcube team are planning to switch to "Amateur Mode" (transponder on with
low power beacon) for at least one whole orbit.
The aim of the switch on March 22 is to check the effect on the satellite of
continuous "Amateur Mode", especially battery temperature.

NAQCC FL Chapter Operation -
The Florida Chapter of NAQCC is holding their March Field Event in Lake Helen
Florida on Friday 03-21-2014 from 9 AM-ish to Noon-ish. (We're all old and
approach time in a more casual manner than we used to - and, after all, this IS
Florida you know.) Steve WB4OMM #5913, Art WB4MNK #5274, Wally KG4LAL #6278 and
Don K3RLL #1905 will somehow be switching around to cover 7.040+, 10.116,

Radio ham operating from research vessel as DL1LLL/MM -
Lars Lehnert, DL1LLL is back on the German research vessel Maria S Merian and
will be operating in the 160-10m amateur radio bands using SSB and digital
modes.
He will be traveling for four weeks on a scientific journey from Las Palmas,
Gran Canaria to Cadiz, Spain.
The German research vessel Maria S. Merian is named after the naturalist and
illustrator Maria Sybilla Merian and is an interdisciplinary research platform
built in 2006.
The Rostock-based research vessel is used by the Leibniz Institute for Baltic
Sea Research at Warnemünde for marine research work.
Its tasks are Arctic research, research on the Gulf Stream, and seabed
research to a depth of 10 km. It has a crew of 21, and can additionally
accommodate 22 scientists. The vessel is equipped with several laboratories.

10/03/2014: Todd, KC1SQ, is planning on going "sailboat mobile" out of
Placencia Village, Stann Creek District, Belize, between 10-18th March 2014. He
has obtained the local callsign V31SQ. Operations will be low power (100W) with
an Icom IC-7000 w/AH-4 tuner into a simple wire going up the mast of their 42
foot sailboat. Operation will all be SSB, and he will likely concentrate on

3 element beam (20/15/10m) fixed on Europe and a vertical or dipole for the

Archipelago (IOTA NA-170) and the Colon-Veraguas group (IOTA NA-202) during this

My wife Nancy passed away Sunday March 2, 2014. She endured many years of
medical challenges and is now resting peacefully. She is leaving a empty spot in
my heart as I'm sure it is the same for all of you. Thank you for the outpouring
of sympathy that I have already received. She has touched so many people around
the world.

this time. She is being cremated at this time per her wishes.

KOTT, NANCY age 58 of Metamora, MI., died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the
University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor. Memorial Services will be
announced at a later date. Nancy was born October 27, 1955 in Hamtramck,
MI., to parents Kenneth and Irene (Keller) Kott. She was head of the North
American Branch of the Preservation of Morse Code (FISTS). Nancy worked for
the U.S. Census Bureau and the Center for Disease Control. Surviving are
husband Tim Lange; parents Kenneth and Irene Kott; sister-in-law Diane Kott
and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her brother Paul
Kott. Arrangements by the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St, Grand
Blanc, MI.
