include a single-operator all-band high-power entry in the CQ WPX SSB contest

23/03/2012: Members of the Radio Club Uruguayo will be active as CW4R from Isla

Gorriti (SA-039, WLOTA 2172) on 23-25 March, 2012. Activity will include an

entry in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest. They will operate CW, SSB and digital modes

23/03/2012: Look for the E51M DXpedition that is going to the North Cook

Islands to also be active as E51EWP from Rarotonga (OC-013), South Cook Islands,

from 23-26 March, 2012, prior to their operation on Manihiki Atoll. Activity

GI036, WW Loc. IO64PO, WAB H87) Tullyhogue, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland

(EU-115, WLOTA 1439), on Friday, 23 March, 2012. QRV all day on the HF bands,

23/03/2012: Tevfik, TA1HZ, will be active as ZA1TC from Durres, Albania on

23-26 March, 2012. This will include an entry in the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest

(24-25 March). He plans to concentrate on 30 metres PSK31 outside the contest.

24/03/2012: Paul, 2E1EUB, will once again be active as 2M1EUB for 7 days

beginning 24 March, 2212. Activity will be from the eastern side of Scotland

IO87MC). Activity will be on 160m, 80m, and the satellites (mostly AO-7 B/A

F5JNE/p on 24 March from Le Manoir (DFCF 89-340, WW Loc. JN17VM), located in the

commune of Sermizelles (CP 89200), canton [county] of Avallon (DDCF 89-05),

24/03/2012: Stephane F5UOW will be FR/F5UOW from Reunion Island (AF-016, DIFO

FR-001, WFF FFF-011, WLOTA 1812) on 24-25 March and 10-14 April, 2012. From 26

March to 9 April Stephane will use the callsign TO2R. He will be active during

24/03/2012: The Verona Section of A.R.I. (Italian Radioamateurs Association) is

organizing, by means a group of its members, called Verona DX Team, a DX

Expedition, with humanitarian and ham radio purposes, in J5 Guinea-Bissau, one

of the poorest countries in the world. The call J5 is a "most wanted",

especially RTTY, CW and digital modes, and has never been activated in EME. The

expedition will be on air as J52EME from 24 March to 6 April, 2012. This date

was chosen given the good conditions for VHF EME activity. They will also

operate on the HF bands in all modes, 80-10 metres, using the callsign J52HF.

The location will be in the Cúmura Mission (QTH of Father Gianfranco J52OFM, WW

Loc. WW Loc. IK21EU), Cúmura, Biombo region, Guinea-Bissau. Team members include

Lucio I3LDP (SSB, RTTY), Walter I3VJW (CW, SSB, RTTY), Tony IK3ESB (SSB, CW,

RTTY), Silverio IK3IUL (CW, SSB, RTTY), Libero IK3RBE (SSB, RTTY), Enzo IK3VVD,

25/03/2012: Bob, ZL1RS, plans a 6m DXpedition to Duncombe Bay (WW Loc. RG30XX),

Norfolk Island (OC-005, WFF VKFF-392, WLOTA 1469), using the callsign

VK9N/ZL1RS, between 25 March and 8 April, 2012. QRV on 50.110 MHz SSB and

50.1106 MHz CW, using IC706mk2g, HB PA 400W and HB stacked Yagis. Bob will also

be on 6m EME, but at moonrise and moonset only (50.190 JT65A). Note: Bob plans

26/03/2012: Jonas, SA0AAZ (FISTS #13285) and Carin, SA0BAC will be active as

V63AAZ and V63BAC from the Truk Stop Hotel, Truk Lagoon, Weno Island (OC-011),

FSM, between 26 March and 10 April, 2012. QRV holiday style on the HF bands

26/03/2012: Brian, WB9QVR and Conner, KC9NOX plan a one day activation of Santa

Rosa [aka Okaloosa] (NA-142, USi FL003S, Escambia/Okaloosa Counties), Florida,

between the dates of 26 and 29 March, 2012. QRV as WB9QVR/4 on the HF bands, on

27/03/2012: Look for Kevan, 2E0WMG, to be active from Lundy Island (EU-120,

WLOTA 1997) as 2E0WMG/p from 27-31 March, 2012. QRV on, or near, the ususal

27/03/2012: A team consisting of Jan DJ8NK, Uwe DJ9HX, Werner DJ9KH, Hawa

DK9KX, Hans DL6JGN, Ron PA3EWP and Leszek SP3DOI plan to be active from Manihiki

Atoll (OC-014, Grid Loc. AH99), North Cook Islands, between 27th March until

10th April, 2012. Signing E51M they will be QRV on 160 to 6m, CW/SSB/RTTY. All

equipment, except transceivers, is already on Manihiki. In total, E51M will have

eleven vertical antennas and a small 4 El. beam for 6m. Setting up 5 Stations,

K3's with 500W amplifiers. As they will have no internet access on Manihiki

27/03/2012: The Medway Amateur Receiving & Transmitting Society will be on air

from Tuesday 27 March to Saturday 31 March 2012, activating Fort Amherst

(CASHOTA G449, WW Loc. JO01GJ) in Chatham, Kent, England (EU-005, WLOTA 1841).

This is part of their 90th birthday celebrations and they will be using the

27/03/2012: Operators Craig, K3PLV and Pete, K8PT will once again be active as

MJ/K3PLV and MJ/K8PT, respectively, from the isle of Jersey (EU-013, WLOTA 0818,

Grid Loc. IN89) between 27 March and 3 April, 2012. They will have amplifiers

and directional antennas on most HF bands and will have the capability to

operate 160-2 metre CW, SSB, RTTY and perhaps some PSK. Please QSL to their home

29/03/2012: Svein, LA9JKA, will be stationed at the Olonkin base on Jan Mayen

Island (EU-022, WLOTA 1454) from 29 March, 2012, to 20 March, 2013. Expect

05/05/2012: On 5 May 2012, members of the Puerto Rico Amateur Radio League

(PRARL) will activate and try to qualify 5 Puerto Rico islands, for the U.S.

in National Mills Weekend on 12 and 13 May 2012 as PI4ETL/p from the windmill

stones proposition mill which has been arranged as a corn mill. QRV on all HF

Loc. IN89VE, CQ zone 14). Plans are for a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry.

16/06/2012: Richard, SM2TOS, and some other radio amateurs, using the callsign

SG2SNF, will make an expedition to the Lancaster bomber, which crashed at Porjus

(WW Loc. JP97UA) in Sweden on 29 October 1944. The "Easy Elsie" Avro Lanchaster

bomber Mk1 NF920 was one of 37 Lancaster bombers on mission to sink the German

battleship Tirpitz in Norway 1944. The provisional date for the expedition will

10/07/2012: Eric, KV1J, will be active from the island of Miquelon (NA-032,

DIFO FP-002, WLOTA 1417, Grid Loc. GN17) as FP/KV1J between 10-17 July, 2012.

QRV on 160-6 metre SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31. Primarily SSB, CW and RTTY generally

on the highest frequency band open. Will try 6M if there are any indications of

openings. May also operate Satellites in good weather. Eric will also

27/07/2012: 2O12W Official Olympic Amateur Radio Station for Wales - The call

sign of the Welsh Flagship Amateur Radio Station celebrating the London Olympic

and Paralympics Games. This very unique "special event radio station" will be

based on the seafront esplanade at Whitmore Beach, Barry Island, Vale of

Glamorgan, Wales (EU-005, WLOTA 0453, WW Loc. IO81IJ). Located just a few miles

south west of Cardiff and the Millennium Stadium where the first Football match

will be played to open the Games in Wales. QRV between 27 July and 9 September

2012 on all bands from 160m to 23cms and all modes including SSTV and satellite.

25/03/2012: The Mesilla Valley Radio Club of Las Cruces, New Mexico, will be

operating special event station K5B on 25 March, 2012, in conjunction with the

23rd annual Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon held annually at the White

3.893, 7.225, 14.330, and 21.337 MHz as band conditions permit. A commemorative

aids for the Cumura Hospital. Each of us has two suitcases of 23 Kg plus a

backpack of 8 kg. The pockets of our jackets and pants are loaded with coaxial

connectors, spare relays, some GaAsFET and the desire to give a new Country via

EME. Remember that we'll be active on 144, 430 and 50 MHz EME with the callsign

[IARU-R2-News 170] Special event stations WARD 2012 2012-03-21

On April 18, 2012 we will celebrate the World Amateur Radio Day on the 87th

Anniversary of the founding of the International Amateur Radio Union, IARU.

This year's theme for the World Amateur Radio Day is "Amateur Radio Satellites:

Celebrating 50 Years in Space" in remembrance the launching of OSCAR 1 on

December 12, 1961 and the launch of OSCAR 2 on June 2, 1962.

For this reason there will be several special event stations from IARU's Member

Societies active on different dates during April: 6H6IARU, 3G73IARU and LZ1WARD.

If IARU's Member Societies plan to have a special event station for this reason

in April let us now so we can publish the details before the end of this month.

Follow The Torch Award

The Worked All Britain Awards Group is promoting an award based upon following

the Olympic Torch around the UK.

The Olympic torch will tour the UK over a period of seventy days taking in a

total of seventy two special events in different parts of the UK, starting at

Lands End on Saturday May 19 and finishing on July 27 at the Olympic Park.

The W.A.B. callsigns will move around UK following the torch, G4WAB and G7WAB

being activated as special event stations using the appropriate prefix

GX-GT-GN-GH-GS-GP-GC.

The award will comprise of three levels: Bronze - Silver - Gold.

All that is required is a copy of your log showing the days/times that you

worked either of the two callsigns. Only the two W.A.B. callsigns will count for

the award which is open to all radio amateurs and SWLs.
